The institution started its activity in accordance with the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR of July 23, 1964 as Chernihiv zonal agrochemical laboratory.

As a result of several reorganizations in 2013, the institution was transformed into the Chernihiv branch of the state institution  “Institute of soil protection of Ukraine”.

This is a large modern research institution that conducts a wide range of agroecological and land management works from field and analytical research to design and technological work in the region with the issuance of necessary documentation, research of the quality of crop products, feed, fertilizers, etc.

The branch annually conducts an agrochemical survey of 170-200 thousand  hectares of agricultural land, certifies 3.5 thousand land plots, provides certificates on the state of soil fertility, and produces cartographic materials.

Based on the results of analytical studies, design and estimate documentation for chemical land reclamation, land management projects with ecological and economic justification of crop rotations are developed, which determine the economically justified application of mineral fertilizers.
