Northwestern Interregional Center of the State Institution INSTITUTE OF SOIL PROTECTION OF UKRAINE

History

The creation of the Volyn agrochemical service dates back to 1965, when a zonal agrochemical laboratory was created on the basis of the regional state agricultural research station.

After the completion of the first round of agrochemical soil testing, a Fertilizer Application Plan was developed and first implemented in the farms of the region, which allowed calculations to be made in each farm for a specific field, crop, and the application of organic and mineral fertilizers in accordance with the norms for the planned harvest. This was the first scientifically based fertilization system to be implemented in agricultural production in the region.

In 1986, the zonal agrochemical laboratory was renamed the Volyn Regional Design and Exploration Station for Agricultural Chemicalization. During this period, another laboratory building was built in the regional center, and the production and laboratory areas were expanded.

After the Chernobyl accident on April 26, 1986, specialists from the Radiological and Toxicological Department participated in the radiological examination of the contaminated areas around the Chernobyl NPP.

During 1992-993, a detailed radiological survey of three districts was completed, cartograms of the density of contamination of farm soils with radionuclides Sr-90 and Cs-137 were produced, and district and regional maps of the density of contamination were compiled.

At the end of 1999, the agrochemical service changed its name from the Volyn Regional Design and Exploration Station of Chemicalization to the Volyn Regional State Design and Technological Center for Soil Fertility and Product Quality Protection. Under the new status, its functions were expanded, departments were reformed, and scientists were recruited.

In 2007, a Testing Center was created, accredited by the National Association of Ukrainian Professional Standards in accordance with the requirements of DSTU ISO/IEC 17025.

In 2011, the center was renamed the state institution "Volyn Regional State Design and Technology Center for Soil Fertility Protection and Product Quality", and at the end of 2012 it was reorganized into the Volyn branch of the state institution "State Scientific and Technological Center for Soil Fertility Protection "Centerderzhrodyuchyst".

In 2013, after the reorganization of the country's agrochemical service, the branch was renamed the Volyn branch of the state institution "Institute of Soil Protection of Ukraine".

In 2024, the branch received a new name - the North-Western Interregional Center of the State Institution "Institute of Soil Protection of Ukraine".

The Interregional Center is actively developing areas of international cooperation. Over the past 10 years, the Center's specialists have participated in the implementation of three powerful international projects that have solved the problems of disposing of unsuitable pesticides, restoring the network of drainage systems, and using waste from various industrial productions in agriculture.
