Zhytomyr Regional Center of the State Institution INSTITUTE OF SOIL PROTECTION OF UKRAINE

History

The predecessor of the regional center was the zonal agrochemical laboratory, established in 1964 at the Zhytomyr Agricultural Institute. Since 1967, it has functioned as an independent scientific and production organization, engaged in the analysis of soil conditions in the Zhytomyr region.

Over the past 60 years, many changes have occurred in the subordination of the institution, its technical equipment, human resources, and the range of work performed. Despite the challenges, the institution's specialists have always successfully fulfilled their tasks, aimed at increasing soil fertility and the effective use of chemical agents.

Thanks to their work, significant results have been achieved in the field of agrochemical examination and land fertilization. This contributed to obtaining high yields of grain, industrial, fodder and vegetable crops, which had a positive impact on the development of agriculture in the region.

The Zhytomyr Regional Center of the State Institution "Institute of Soil Protection of Ukraine" actively cooperates with local authorities, in particular the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration and district administrations. The Department of Agro-Industrial Development and Economic Policy of the Regional State Administration plays a special role in joint work.

The Center also has established cooperation with scientific institutions and educational institutions, including the Institute of Agriculture of Polissya of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Zhytomyr National Agroecological University, and Zhytomyr Agrotechnical College. In addition, cooperation is underway with agricultural enterprises and project organizations to introduce modern methods in agriculture.

Main Areas of Activity

  • agrochemical and agroecological studies of the state of soil fertility in the Zhytomyr region according to the main fertility parameters with the subsequent development of agrochemical cartograms, agrochemical passport of the field, land plot, recommendations for improving soil quality and fertilizing agricultural crops;
  • determining the quality of mineral (solid, liquid) and organic fertilizers, chemical ameliorants;
  • radiological and toxicological studies of soils;
  • determining the level of contamination by pesticide residues, heavy metals and radionuclides in feed and agricultural products;
  • determining the quality of crop production;
  • creation of individual projects for carrying out chemical land reclamation works;
  • development of a regional program for the protection and improvement of soil fertility, implementation of state and regional programs for the protection and improvement of soil fertility, as well as monitoring their implementation;
  • providing consultations, conducting scientific and practical seminars on agrochemical support for crop cultivation technologies and restoring soil fertility;
  • land management projects that provide ecological and economic justification for crop rotation and land improvement;
  • technical reports on soil cover surveys to obtain information about its quality condition, to determine the thickness of the humus horizon and the need to preserve it during construction, mining, extraction and other types of work where soil cover is disturbed;
  • land management working projects for the reclamation of disturbed lands;
  • working projects for the removal and transfer of topsoil.
